Park Avenue and rural Vietnam sit at opposite ends of facial plastic surgery, yet Dr. Andrew Jacono works in both. His New York practice serves a cosmetic surgery clientele that includes public figures, while his humanitarian missions treat children and domestic violence survivors who could never afford similar procedures.
Dr. Andrew Jacono holds dual board certification in facial plastic surgery, and the same hands that perform elective procedures for private patients also carry out reconstructive surgery for people who have no other path to care. That overlap sits at the center of how he describes his own career.
Pro Bono Work at Scale
The scale of that pro bono work is difficult to overstate. Through the FACE TO FACE project, run by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Jacono has reconstructed the faces of more than 100 domestic violence survivors. Through international missions with groups including Healing the Children and the HUGS Foundation, he has treated more than 750 children with cleft lip and palate, microtia, facial tumors, and burn scars.
He travels on these missions roughly twice a year, reaching countries such as Colombia, Ecuador, Thailand, and Vietnam. Meanwhile, his domestic advocacy includes nine years chairing ABOUT FACE: MAKING CHANGES, a benefit for domestic violence survivors, and a Good Guy Award from the Center for the Women of New York.
A Philosophy of Shared Purpose
Rather than treating his cosmetic and humanitarian work as separate pursuits, Dr. Jacono has framed them as reinforcing each other. Skills refined on paying patients translate directly into more precise reconstructive outcomes for children and survivors who need them most.
As Fellowship Director for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, he continues to model that dual commitment for the surgeons he trains, arguing that elite technical ability and humanitarian service can and should coexist within a single career.
